Flavour, an Igbo highlife singer has recounted an encounter with award-winning music defunct group P-Square, which inspired him to become a recording artiste.
According to the highlife musician whose real name is Chinedu Okoli, during a recent feature on the In My Opinion podcast hosted by media personality Olufemi Ogundoro, he was performing years ago at a show as a live singer, when he was asked to vacate the stage the moment Peter and Paul Okoye arrived at the venue.
“Back then, I used to go to shows. I was a singer but not yet an artiste. I would just go with my live band, we play songs and I perform. Then one day, dem say make we commot for stage. Who come? P-Square,” he said.
Flavour disclosed that the the duo’s entrance and the wild reaction from the crowd shook him, especially when he realised they were performing their own songs.
“As they mounted the stage and started performing, the crowd went crazy. I was stunned. I said, ‘This is the real deal!’ They created their own music, and I hadn’t done that yet. That moment changed everything for me.”
The singer said he went home that day with a clear goal — to stop being just a live performer and become a full-fledged artiste with original music.
