The Milkmaid: 10 Things You Should Know About Anthonieta Kalunta

Ever since The Milkmaid dropped, everyone’s been talking about the very talented, Anthonieta Kalunta.

Her ability to interpret her role as the fiery young central character (Aisha) who endures captivity, manages to escape, and selflessly returns in order to find and recover her younger sister Zainab (Maryam Booth) who was abducted by religious militants, won hearts everywhere.

We doubt Anthonieta Kalunta will be going anywhere soon. So we thought to provide the help and share 10 facts about her in order for you to know the distinguished actress.

  1. She was born on March 13, 1997 in Kaduna state to a father who hails from Abia state and Mrs. Tina, a native of Imo state.
  2. Kalunta is the third of four children; she grew up among the Hausa and Fulani people of Northern Nigeria.
  3. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre and Performing Arts at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
  4. In 200 Level, she took an interest in the entertainment industry and started hosting red carpet at events.
  5. While a number of fresh faces were paving their way into the Nollywood industry, Anthonieta Kalunta put NYSC on hold to audition for The Milkmaid.
  6. She made her acting debut in November 2020 with a lead role in The Milkmaid. For a first time actress, a lead role can be quite challenging but Kalunta gave it her all.
  7. Although she could speak Hausa, to pull off her role as “Aisha” in the film; she was tutored by a language instructor who taught her the proper Hausa and Fufulde language.
  8. She was nominated for the ‘Best Young / Promising Actor’ category at the 2020 AMAA for her role in The Milkmaid. 
  9. Kalunta does not regret choosing The Milkmaid over NYSC. According to her she’s “really grateful” that she was able to make that decision at the time.
  10. In July 2019, Anthonieta Kalunta completed her NYSC programme.
