The sweet reality of inevitability – DJ Switch reacts to former president Buhari’s death

Nigerian disc jockey, DJ Switch has described the death of former president Muhammadu Buhari as the “sweet reality of inevitability.”

The DJ’s reaction comes shortly after news of Buhari’s death broke on Sunday, July 13, 2025. She wrote: “Wow! The sweet reality of inevitability. RIP MF. One down…”

Following her response on social media, many criticised her for her remark.

In response to the backlash, the activist released a lengthy video message defending her post and addressing those who sent her private messages.

She clarified that her post was not intended to celebrate death, but rather to acknowledge that everyone, regardless of their power or influence, eventually dies.

She pointed out that the late president had lived a long life and received quality healthcare abroad, privileges that many ordinary citizens cannot afford.

In her words: “Buhari achieved what? Please. He achieved what? He achieved what? And with what? With our resources? With our money? What did he achieve? Oh, you don’t realize that he lived long because of our resources? Do you know how many people are dying in Nigeria? Do you know how many people are starving in Nigeria because they don’t have national cake to steal from? They don’t have national cake to go get quality treatment abroad.

“And yeah, with all of that stuff, all of the stuff that they’ve stolen, that they keep stealing, they are less likely to be attacked by police or armed robbers on the road when they are riding around with heavy security. Please tell me what Buhari has achieved, apart from destroying lives and killing Nigerians”, she said.

DJ Switch, born Obianuju Udeh, already made a name for herself in the Nigerian music space as a skilled disc jockey and the winner of The Glo X Factor in 2013.

However, her fame took a sharp turn in 2020 when she became a prominent figure in the #EndSARS movement. Known for her livestream of the Lekki Toll Gate shooting, where security forces allegedly opened fire on unarmed protesters, DJ Switch’s bravery garnered her international attention.

Fearing for her safety after receiving threats, the 40-year-old DJ left Nigeria and reportedly sought asylum abroad, stepping away from the public eye for years.
