There was a moment of panic among supporters after the giant pot used in Hilda Baci’s attempt at the world’s largest pot of jollof rice reportedly collapsed during the ongoing cook-off.
The record attempt, held at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, drew more than 20,000 attendees and was designed to showcase Nigerian cuisine and culture on a global stage. The custom-built pot, measuring six meters wide and 1.3 meters deep, was capable of holding over 22,000 liters of food.

However, while organisers were trying to move the pot to weigh the food, it broke apart, sparking alarm among spectators.

Technical staff quickly intervened and managed to put the pot back together, but the incident generated mixed reactions online.

One user quipped: “They wanted to break the record, but they ended up breaking the pot.”
Another commented: “That welder will hear it after all the time, energy and resources put into this 😮. Body go tell the maker!”
A third wrote: “Their calculations must have been wrong. I was wondering how that pot could cook 250 bags of rice, totaling 12,500 kg.”
And someone else asked: “So now my question is—did she actually break the record, or does she have to start over?”
