Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, one-half of the now-defunct music duo Psquare, has emotionally revisited one of the most painful chapters of his personal life, opening up about the controversy that followed when his then-girlfriend, Lola Omotayo, became pregnant.
The 44-year-old musician became visibly emotional while recounting the experience in a video shared on his Instagram page.
Peter explained that he chose to reveal the pregnancy himself because he did not want the news to be leaked or distorted by others.
According to him, he made the announcement publicly during the Soundcity Music Video Awards after Psquare received an award.
He said: “When I was 27 years old, my girlfriend then, Lola, became pregnant. I didn’t want the news to break from someone else, so I decided to announce it myself.
He continued: “We attended the Soundcity Awards, and after receiving the award, I dedicated it to God Almighty, our fans, and everyone who had supported us. Lastly, I dedicated it to the mother of my unborn child.”

The singer alleged that his announcement was not well received by his twin brother, Paul Okoye, and their elder brother, Jude Okoye.
Peter claimed they believed the revelation would negatively affect Psquare’s image and career.
He alleged: “Immediately after that, Jude and Paul walked out, saying my announcement would ruin our career. They insisted that Lola should abort the baby. They even forged an email to frame her, claiming the child wasn’t mine and accusing her of using the pregnancy to trap me.”

Peter and Lola eventually got married in 2013 after several years together and welcomed two children during their marriage.
However, the couple separated in 2024, bringing an end to their 11-year marriage.
His latest emotional revelation comes amid his ongoing public exchange with his brothers over long-standing family and business disagreements, with the singer continuing to share personal experiences that he says have shaped his life and career.
