Prominent Nigerian businessman Razaq Okoya has shared insights into his early life, success journey, and his concerns about the changing attitudes of younger generations.
Reflecting on his upbringing, the industrialist revealed that he developed a clear sense of purpose from a young age.
Despite being raised by a tailor, Okoya explained that he was not allowed to fully immerse himself in the trade at the time. Instead, he spent his early years assisting in his father’s shop by selling tailoring materials such as buttons.
According to him, that humble beginning played a crucial role in shaping his passion and eventual success in business. With his mother’s support, he pursued his ambitions and built a thriving career, a journey he says he looks back on without any regrets.
“Right from my youth, I determined what I wanted to be. My father is a tailor, but he didn’t allow me to do much. I had to be in his shop selling buttons. It was from there that I got my passion, and I have done it very successfully,” he said.
However, Okoya expressed concern over what he described as a shift in values among today’s youth. He noted that many young people now prefer to follow their own paths rather than heed advice from elders, a trend he believes may not always yield positive results.
“But children nowadays have their own ideas. They hardly listen; they want things done their own way, which is not really working,” he added.
The business mogul further lamented that even individuals within his circle, including younger associates, often resist guidance, choosing instead to pursue independent approaches.
