A popular social media activist and commentator, Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has raised alarm over the alleged abandonment of a 22-year-old woman who was crushed by a truck belonging to the Dangote Group in Edo State.

The activist, who is known for using his online platforms to speak against social issues, made the allegation on Monday through a video he posted on his Instagram story. In the video, he showed the young woman lying in a ward at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Auchi, Edo State.

According to VDM, the victim, whose name was not disclosed, has been battling for her life in the hospital for the past 11 months. He stated that the accident occurred while the young woman was on her way to defend her school project before she was allegedly hit by a Dangote truck driven by an unlicensed driver.

He further alleged that the company failed to take responsibility for the accident and abandoned the victim despite the huge medical bills her family has been struggling with. VDM claimed that the woman’s hospital bills have already risen to over ₦5 million.

The activist also revealed that he joined a protest against the movement of Dangote trucks in Auchi to draw attention to the plight of the victim and other accident cases involving Dangote vehicles. He insisted that the company must take full responsibility for people injured by its trucks.

His statement partly read, “On reaching the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Auchi, Edo State, we met an abandoned victim of Dangote’s reckless unlicensed driver. She is a 22-year-old girl who was on her way for her project when she was crushed. She has been in the hospital for 11 months with bills of over ₦5 million. Dangote has abandoned her.

“Let the world know that we will not be allowing any Dangote trucks today in Auchi if all victims of Dangote’s unlicensed truck drivers are not properly taken care of. @dangotegroup @aliko_dangotegcon, we can’t fight you because you are the richest man in Africa and you have security agencies at your disposal. We are only telling you to take responsibility.”

This development comes only a few days after Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna Otabor, publicly accused the company after her sister, Ruth, was reportedly crushed by a Dangote truck in Auchi, the same area where this latest case was recorded.
