Veteran Yoruba Actor ‘Ereke Ni Shop’ is Dead

Chief Timothy Agboola, a veteran Yoruba broadcaster cum comic actor, popularly known as “Ereke Ni Shop,” has passed away.

He reportedly died on Wednesday at a private hospital in Lagos after a long illness.

Agboola was well known for his work in Yoruba broadcasting, comedy, and promoting culture. He was seen as a passionate cultural ambassador and a proud supporter of Ijesa culture and tradition.

Colleagues and admirers have started sharing tributes after news of his death.

One of his associates, Idris Shogbola, shared the news on social media and expressed his sorrow over the broadcaster’s passing.

“May the soul of our boss rest in peace.

Baba Oloye Repete… A broadcaster, actor, comedian.
May God Almighty give you eternal rest in peace. Amen.

Agboola was a well-known Yoruba radio presenter and comedian. He became popular for his unique way of telling stories and his sense of humor. His shows often highlighted Yoruba traditions and offered social commentary, which made him a favorite among listeners and fans.

Throughout his career, he worked with well-known entertainers like Baba Alajeju. Some of his comedy performances go back to the 1970s.

He was also known as a protégé of the late Yoruba comedy legend Gbenga Adeboye, also called Funwontan.

Actor Ereke Ni Shop

After Adeboye died, Agboola helped keep the unique Yoruba variety entertainment style alive. He was also known for presenting on Faaji 106.5FM.

Besides his radio work, Agboola acted in several Yoruba films. He often played clever and funny characters that matched his comedic style.

Reports say he had been struggling with an unknown illness for a while and may not have had enough financial support for his treatment before he passed away.
