Nigerian businessman Wale Jana has sparked debate on social media after publicly advising fashion designer Veekee James and her husband, Femi Atere, against sharing their baby’s registry with the general public.
In a strongly worded message, Wale Jana urged the couple to reconsider allowing the public to purchase gifts for their unborn child. He argued that collecting items from a crowd carries what he described as “spiritual undertones”.
According to him, wealthy individuals are typically expected to give to others rather than receive from the masses.
In his words: “Dear Veekee James and Femi, I just read about your baby registry. Please don’t let the general public buy gifts for your baby. Anything that involves collecting from the crowd has spiritual undertones.
“It’s why wealthy people give to the masses! Davido gave out the 300 million that was donated to him for charity. The hand of the giver is always on top. It must never be the other way round.”

To support his point, he referenced Nigerian music star Davido, noting that the singer donated the ₦300 million given to him by fans to charity. Wale Jana emphasised that “the hand of the giver is always on top” and suggested that public figures should maintain a position of generosity rather than dependence.
