Nigerian singer, Skales has opened up on his humble beginning and how he struggled alongside his late mother while growing up in Kaduna.
The music star shared his story during an interview on the TownHall Different podcast, where he spoke about the difficult conditions they lived in before fame changed his life.

According to him, his mother, who worked as a teacher, tried her best to provide for them despite the tough financial situation. He revealed that they once lived in a small hut and had to sleep on the bare floor with mats and wrappers.
Skales explained, “My mum was a teacher, and we didn’t have much. We lived in a hut before moving to a boys’ quarters. We slept on the floor with mats, and my mom would spread a wrapper on the floor and sleep. Coming from that kind of background to where I am today is just crazy.”
The singer also recalled how they lived without basic amenities, including a television, while growing up. He said he was shocked the first time he saw one, describing the moment as unforgettable.
Skales narrated that his turning point came when he got signed to Banky W’s record label, Empire Mates Entertainment (EME). He said the deal gave him a completely new life and opened doors in his career.
“The first time I saw TV was when EME signed me. I had my own TV in my room. I used to switch it on and off in amazement,” he said jokingly.
