The Nigerian socialite was born on May 3, 1961, in Benue State, Nigeria, of Tiv ethnicity. Waya gained prominence in the early 2000s for his extravagant lifestyle and close associations with influential figures in Nigerian politics and business.
Often referred to as “Mr. Versace” for his affinity for the luxury fashion brand, Terry Waya is known for his opulent parties and high-profile social engagements. He has claimed involvement in significant real estate developments, including the discovery of Banana Island in Lagos, one of Nigeria’s most affluent neighborhoods.

In a 2020 interview with BBC Pidgin, Waya recounted that during a visit to his friend General Abdulkarim Adisa, who was then the Minister of Works, he noticed a poster about the Banana Island project.
Upon learning that the government was seeking a partner to develop the area, Waya expressed interest and was subsequently awarded the project. He then brought in the Chagoury Group, a multinational company, to execute the development.
However, in the new interview, the female Caucasian interviewer was enthralled after she asked Terry Waya about his net worth, and he delivered an exhilarating response about how much he is worth.
