Whitemoney under fire over tribal remarks at 2025 Headies

Whitemoney, former Big Brother Naija Shine Ya Eyes housemate has come under criticism over his tribal remarks at the 17th Headies Awards ceremony.

eelive .ng reports that learnt that the reality star during his acceptance speech while receiving the Afrobeats Single Of the Year award on behalf of singer Flavour said he was on the stage on behalf of the Igbos.

The statement attracted backlash from viewers, who felt the remark was inappropriate, some accused the reality star cum actor of tribalism for narrowing Flavour’s fan base to the Igbo folks.

Reacting, Nigerian media Personality, Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode, popularly known as Do2dtun, berated Whitemoney for bringing tribal sentiment into the award ceremony, stressing that the award won by Flavour was for all Afrobeats fans.

He wrote, “’On behalf of the Igbos.’ I am sorry, that was so unnecessary. It didn’t need that type of narrative. It’s an award won by an African; for Afrobeat and a Nigerian. #headies2025”

The 17th edition of the awards ceremony took place on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos.

The star-studded arrivals at the red carpet set social media buzzing, with hashtags such as #TheHeadies and #Headies2025 dominating the trending charts

The event also featured prominent Nigerians including the Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo Olu.

Others present at the award ceremony include Tanzanian singer Juma Jux and his wife Priscilla, actress Nancy Isime, Bamike Olawunmi-Adenibuyan (BamBam), socialite Cubana Chief Priest, and Big Brother Naija 2021 winner White Money.
