
Afrobeat musician and outspoken activist Seun Kuti has once again sparked heated debate online after boldly declaring that he has never prayed in his life, describing the act as “childish.”
In a viral Christmas Eve video, Kuti the youngest son of legendary Nigerian icon Fela Anikulapo Kuti shared his views on prayer, religion, and personal responsibility, challenging the widely held beliefs of millions of Nigerians.
In his words; “I’ve never prayed before in my life, I don’t believe it works, Praying is childish. It doesn’t work”

Seun argued that real prayer involves action and responsibility, not “kneeling down to beg.” According to him, if prayers truly worked, “there would be no one in hospitals or prisons.” He emphasized that prayers only work if they align with divine will otherwise, they are simply wishful thinking.

Seun Kuti’s comments have once again split social media. While some Nigerians criticised his statements as blasphemous and dangerous. Some believers responded with warnings that he would one day regret rejecting prayer.
However, Seun, like his father, continues to challenge norms, using his platform to provoke thought around politics, spirituality, and social systems even if it means standing alone.
