Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has denied claims that he left the wedding of TikTok creators Peller and Jarvis because of comments comparing Wizkid to his late father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
It would be recalled that Seun attended the wedding of Peller and Jarvis.
In the videos that surfaced on social media, captured in the moment, some people claimed he was upset after the master of ceremonies allegedly said Wizkid was bigger than Fela.
In one clip, Seun said he was in the wrong place, which led to more speculation about why he left.
While with Fuji singer Malaika, Seun said the reports were not true and explained that he left because he wanted to visit the New Afrika Shrine.
He said, “I left the wedding to go to the Shrine, and these bloggers twisted things, saying I was angry. Maybe I should have danced out of the ceremony”.
His response comes after widespread reactions online over the viral videos from the event.
The controversy began after Seun exchanged words with Wizkid’s fan base, Wizkid FC. Seun criticised them for often mentioning Fela’s name in debates about today’s musicians. He said calling any modern artist the “new Fela” shows people do not understand his father’s impact on African music.
The debate grew after Wizkid said online that he is bigger than Fela and questioned Seun’s connection to his father’s legacy. This exchange led to mixed reactions on social media, with fans split over the comparisons.
