Let us talk about the wonder uncs or wonder uncles at the World Cup.
Lionel Messi (Argentina)
In 2022, Lionel Messi lifted the World Cup trophy as the captain of the Argentina national team. The eight-time Ballon D’Or made his debut in the 2006 World Cup tournament as a 19-year-old prodigy after winning the 2005 U-20 World youth championship, where he scored two goals against Nigeria.
Messi didn’t fade away; instead, he quickly became the superstar of his generation by weaving through defences and etching his name in the history books.
Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)
The most followed sportsman in the world. At the age of 41, Ronaldo will be looking to win his first World Cup title with the Portuguese national team.
He also made his World Cup debut in 2006, where he inspired Portugal to a semi-final finish. He hasn’t achieved the same height with Portugal at the World Cup ever since.
This is the final chance for him to achieve that objective.
Guillermo Ochoa (Mexico)
Also, 41, Ochoa is participating in his 6th World Cup tournament like Ronaldo and Messi.
Luka Modric (Croatia)
Croatian team leader, Luka Modric, also has an impressive World Cup resume. In 2018, he finished as a runner-up with the Croatian national team after losing 4-2 to France, then he finished in 3rd place at the 2022 edition in Qatar.
It would be interesting to see what this midfield maestro can achieve in 2026.
