An X user known as MR money, widely criticised by netizens for frequently posting defamatory or sensational content about celebrities, has issued a public apology to Nigerian rapper Zlatan Ibile following a viral fake rumor about his relationship with partner and baby mama, Davita Lamai.
The controversy erupted on January 26, 2026, when Banger boy as popularly called, shared a post featuring screenshots, including one appearing to be from Snapchat and Instagram, claiming Zlatan had said Davita was “the mother of my kids but she’s not my wife yet” and that he would “never marry her” despite having two children together.
The caption read: “Zlatan’s wife (Davita lamai) in tears as zlatan ibile said he will never marry her despite having two kids for him. What could be the reason?”
Accompanied by family photos, the post garnered significant engagement, sparking widespread speculation and backlash.
Zlatan swiftly responded the next day 27th of January, debunking the claim on his official account. He wrote: “Y’all know I hate to shalaye… THIS IS FAKE!!! This is peak engagement farming. People will invent any rubbish, drag wives and children into it… Banger boy your time is coming soon.”
He condemned the trend of fabricating stories for likes and warned the originator of potential consequences.
In response to the backlash, Banger boy posted an apology late in the night of same day Zlatan reacted, directly addressing the rapper: “I’m sorry. The screenshot I posted was fake. I used it to push a false narrative about you, and that was wrong and unfair. I had no business spreading lies about your personal life. I hurt you and caused unnecessary drama. I was completely wrong. I’m sorry.” After apologizing to the rapper, Banger boy deactivated his X account, a move with netizens say is to go undercover for the issue to die down.
Zlatan and Davita Lamai share two children and have kept their relationship relatively private, often sharing positive family moments without public drama.
