Rita Edochie, the veteran Nollywood actress, has thrown her weight behind May Yul-Edochie’s choice to keep her marital surname despite her separation from actor Yul Edochie.
In a post shared on her Instagram page, Rita expressed disbelief over the backlash May has received from some social media users over the issue, questioning why people would show so much hate towards someone who is unaware of their existence.
She declared that the name “Queen May Yul-Edochie” is here to stay, emphasising that critics have no authority over her identity.
“Why the outrage? Her name remains Queen May Yul-Edochie even after the divorce because you didn’t give her that name. Why the unnecessary hate for someone who doesn’t even know you exist? If it pains you that much, grab a bucket for your tears, or better still, hug a transformer,” Rita wrote.

She urged people to focus on their own growth instead of attacking others, advising them to be patient and trust in God’s timing.
“Pray for your own success and you will shine in your time. Be happy for those God has blessed, your time will come too. Don’t compare your journey to others. Just like the sun and moon, everyone shines at their own time. Avoid the pressure to rush. God’s plan is perfect. Celebrate small wins, learn from your setbacks, and keep pushing forward.”
Rita’s message comes as a show of solidarity with May, who has continued to receive support from fans and celebrities alike since her marital troubles became public.
