Nollywood actor and political commentator Yul Edochie has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reinstate the cashless policy earlier introduced by the previous administration, citing its impact on the economy and national security.

In a post shared on his official Instagram handle, Edochie directly addressed President Tinubu, describing the policy as a game-changer that had once helped to stabilize the Naira and reduce crime.

To my leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, @officialasiwajubat, I humbly suggest you bring back the cashless policy,” Edochie wrote.

According to the actor, the cashless initiative led to a significant appreciation in the value of the naira, brought down the prices of goods, and restored the value of smaller denominations such as ₦5, ₦10, ₦20, and ₦50.

Edochie also linked the policy to a reduction in kidnapping, arguing that limiting physical cash flow disrupted criminal operations.

The cashless policy also helped to reduce kidnapping massively. Consider it again Sir. Thank you, Your Excellency,” he added.

Yul Edochie, known for his outspoken views on national issues, has consistently used his platform to engage in political discourse. His latest comment comes amid ongoing public debates about the state of the economy, the naira’s depreciation, and rising insecurity.

The cashless policy initially rolled out by the Central Bank of Nigeria during the Buhari administration was met with both praise and backlash, particularly during the controversial naira redesign period. While it aimed to encourage digital transactions and reduce reliance on cash, critics pointed to challenges such as poor banking infrastructure and limited access in rural areas.
