10 Nigerian Albums With Back To Back Hit Tracks

Music is a language that doesn’t speak in particular words, it is an explosive expression of humanity, a refuge for those who seek its company and it is the strongest form of magic.

Way back when, we had acts like The Trybsmen, Tony Tetuila, Plantashun Boiz and then Solodee, Kenny Ogungbe, Ruggedman, Weird Mc, Naeto C, MegaJay and P-square giving us great jams, to name a few.
Around the close of the decade, more hip hop acts like Olamide, M.I Abaga, Ice Prince, DBanj amongst others began to gain popularity and we the question of who exactly is the GOAT started to come up.

With how far Nigerian music has come, we thought it was high time to trace back some of our steps and figure out which artiste has blessed up solid jams.

Without maligning the skills or hits by other acts, we have compiled a list of 10 Nigerian music albums with back to back hit tracks produced in the last 20 years based on a Twitter poll.

10. Ayo by Wizkid

Ayo is the self titled second studio album by Nigerian singer, Ayo Balogun known popularly as Wizkid. It was released on September 17, 2014, by Starboy Entertainment and Empire Mates entertainment. It was the follow up to his debut album, Superstar which was released in 2011. The album has 19 tracks in total and it features musicians like Akon, Seyi Shay, Banky W, Yemi Sax, Wale and Lax.

9. CEO by Dagrin

Oladapo Olaitan Olaonipekun, known popularly as Dagrin was a Nigerian rapper. Barack O’Grin as he was fondly called by fans died on the 22nd of April 2010 at the age of 25. His Album, CEO( Chief Executive Omota) won the Hip-Hop World Award 2010 for Best Rap Album. It was released by Misofunyin Entertainment on the 26th of January, 2010. It has 13 masterpiece tracks with no feature.

8. The Entertainer by D’Banj

The Entertainer is the third studio album released in 2018 by Nigerian Afrobeat recording artist, D’banj. It features appearances from Wande Coal, Special Kid and Kayswitch. It has 10 tracks and was produced by Don Jazzy.

7. Face2Face by 2baba

Face to Face is a 2014 album by Innocent “2baba” Idibia. It’s success owes much to the album’s lead track, “African Queen”. The album became a major hit initially in Nigeria, but quickly spread through Western and Southern Africa eventually making an impact in Europe. It has 18 tracks in total including a Southern African edition.

6. Asa by Asa

Asa is the first platinum selling self titled album produced by  Nigerian-French Singer, Bukola Elemide, known popularly as Asa. The album saw Asa charting radios across Europe, Asia and Africa. The album was released in 2007 and it has 10 tracks.

5. Gongo Aso by 9ice

Abolore Adegbola Akande, known popularly as 9ice, is a Nigerian musician. Gongo Aso was his sophomore album and it was notable for its hit song, “Gongo Aso”. It was released in 2008 and has 14 hit tracks. 9ice is recognized as the first Nigerian Pop artist to release two albums in a year.

4. M.I Album(The Chairman) by M.I Abaga

The Chairman is the third studio album produced by Nigerian Hip-Hop recording artist, M.l Abaga. It was released on October 30, 2014. It features other artists like 2face, Wizkid, Seyi Shay, Ice Prince, Olamide, Phyno, Pantoranking, Sound Sultan, Nosa amongst others. It has 17 tracks with a total play length of 75:00.

3. Superstar by Wizkid

Superstar is the debut album of Nigerian Singer, Ayo Balogun known popularly as Wizkid. It was released on June 12, 2011 by Empire Mates Entertainment. It features guest appearances from Wande Coal, D’Prince, Banky W and Skales. It was the most highly anticipated Nigerian album of 2011. It has 17 tracks including a freestyle leak.

2. Grass to Grace by 2baba

Grass to Grace is 2face Idibia’s second solo album which won numerous awards including a MOBO award in 2007. It was produced by Kenny Ogungbe and contains 13 hit tracks. Grass to Grace was released on the 8th of December, 2006.

1. Mushin to Mohits by Wande Coal

M2M for short tops this chart with the highest number of entries. M2M is the debut album by Wande Coal and it was released on the 12th of April, 2009 under the Mo’ hits record now Mac in records. The album which was produced by Don Jazzy featured a number of other artists including D’banj, Dr Sid, D’Prince, K Switch amongst others. It has 16 hit tracks.
