Eelive.ng has gathered that Curacao has become the smallest nation by population to participate in a FIFA World Cup tournament.
Curacao, a Dutch Caribbean island located in South America, made its World Cup debut on Sunday, June 14, against four-time world champions Germany in a 7-1 defeat. Despite the defeat, the nation celebrated, receiving recognition from Guinness World Records as the smallest country by population to qualify for the FIFA World Cup competition.

According to reports gathered, the total population of people in Curacao is 156,115.
A statement published by Guinness World Records reads, “We were delighted to present Gilbert Martina, the president of the Curacao Football Federation, the certificate for the smallest country by population to qualify for the FIFA World Cup- 156,115 people.”

This record was previously held by Iceland in 2018. The European country entered the 2018 World Cup tournament with a total population of 330,000 people at the time.
