5 top male disc jockeys in Nigeria

A disc jockey, popularly known as DJ, is a person who plays recorded music for an audience.

DJing as an art-form existed for one purpose; mixing records at parties to make people dance. With the rise of hip-hop, however, this role required refinement and more than players of records. DJs also became creators of trends, who broke new and exciting music, standing at the pulse of an industry.

This profession is not gender based as it has been observed overtime that both genders are involved in this professional.

DJ Jimmy Jatt

Adewale Amu popularly known as DJ Jimmy Jatt, is a Nigerian disc jockey who is referred to as one of the pioneering hiphop DJs in Nigeria. He started out his music career as a rapper under the sobriquet Master J but delved into DJing after his failure in getting signed by a record label despite releasing a handful of songs including a demo recording. 

He is best known for his Jimmy’s Jump Off concert, an event he started in 2008 to become one of the most attended entertainment events in Nigeria. In 2006, he won the Hip Hop World Hall of Fame award at the maiden edition of The Headies for his contribution to hip-hop in Nigeria. He has also produced three studio albums which are: The Definition (2007) The Industry Vol 1 (2014) and  Urban Heartbeat (2017).

DJ Neptune

Imohosien Patrick popularly known as DJ Neptune is a successful Disc Jockey and powerful brand to reckon with when it comes to music and entertainment in Nigeria. Neptune started his career as a professional Disc Jockey in 2001 and was hired by Nigeria’s first private radio station Ray power 100.5 FM Lagos where he worked as an inhouse DJ from 2004 to 2010. 

As a professional Disc Jockey with wide sense and a high taste for good music, Neptune was able to keep the listeners glued to their radio set and in a short period of time. He became a household name in the Nigeria entertainment industry.

In 2008, Nigerian rapper Naeto C signed DJ Neptune as his official Disc Jockey / Hype man and together the duo created a new face to Nigerian Hip-Hop/ Nigerian DJ’s in Africa. 

DJ Spinall

Born on 2nd of June, Oluseye Desmond Sodamola popularly known as DJ Spinall, is a Nigerian Disc Jockey, Record Producer, songwriter, Label Executive, and Media personality. He first gained prominence in 2004, while working as a radio DJ at Raypower 100.5 FM. He later joined Industry Nite where he promoted underground talents at the weekly platform.

DJ Spinall served as the official DJ to Wande Coal while he was affiliated with Mavin Records. DJ Spinall created a style edge to his outfit known as TheCAP, tracing his roots back to his culture. TheCAP, which fans tags as “TheCrazyAzzParty” has since then been his brand power and identity.

DJ Xclusive

Rotimi Alakija better known a DJ Xclusive, is a Nigerian disc jockey, record producer and recording artist. DJ Xclusive started his professional disc jockey career in 2003 by performing at various night clubs, including Aura Mayfair, Penthouse, Funky Buddha and Jalouse.

During the course of his career, DJ Xclusive has performed with  acts like Ne-Yo, Rihanna, Mario Winans, Brick and Lace, Nas and Fat Joe. At the 2010 edition of the Nigeria Entertainment Awards held in the United States, DJ Xclusive won World Best DJ.

He was nominated for Best DJ at the 2011 edition of the Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television Awards (BEFFTA Awards). He was also featured at the 2013 Big Brother House Party.

In 2011, DJ Xclusive became the resident DJ for CoolFM 96.9 and also joined Empire Mates Entertainment as Wizkid’s official DJ.

DJ Enimoney

Eniola Olamilekan Adedeji, known by his stage name DJ Enimoney, is a Nigerian disc jockey and recording artist. Enimoney is the official DJ of YBNL Nation and younger brother of Nigerian rapper, Olamide. He is followed by his “WOBEY DJ CAMPUS TOUR” – a multi campus music concert tour that has seen him perform across major universities in Nigeria.

He came into limelight in 2016 with his debut single “Oya dab” which featured Olamide. At the 2018 edition of the City People Music Awards, held in Lagos, DJ Enimoney single “Diet” which features Tiwa Savage & Slimcase won “Best Collaboration of the Year”

In April 2021, he featured Olamide in his single titled “Sugar Daddy”
