Cynthia Anijekwu, the Nollywood actress, who recently solicited funds following her painful battle with cancer, has received N13.1 million in donations.
Recall, the fast-rising actress, in a deeply emotional video that had gone viral, broke down in tears as she opened up on her battle with the deadly sickness, calling on Nigerians for urgent support.
According to her, she was diagnosed in 2023 and underwent surgery and chemotherapy. While she initially hoped for recovery, the cancer returned more aggressively and has now spread to her bones.
“I spend 600 and something thousand naira a month now. And it’s not an easy thing,” she said, visibly distressed. “The doctor said that it has reached my bone. The treatment now is higher.” She explained that she requires radiation and further surgery, burdens that her family can no longer bear.
Fighting back tears, she pleaded, “Please, I need to live. I need to survive. I’m asking Nigerians to please help me. Anyone that can help… Your one Naira, your two Naira can add up to something reasonable for me to take the proper treatment.”
In an update shared by actress Destiny Etiko, who had earlier posted a video of Cynthia explaining her health condition and asking for help, Destiny revealed that N13.1 million had been raised out of the N20 million needed for Cynthia’s treatment.
“You all contributed N13.1 million out of the 20m. It’s a lot, and she is overwhelmed with joy.
“She is super grateful and in shock. God bless y’all.
“At least this will go a long way to help. Honestly, I never expected this massive love y’all showered on her.
“All I can say is thank you, Jesus. And thanks to all my followers.”
