Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has asserted that women remain the true backbone and primary architects of the Nigerian film industry.

In a widely circulated recent interview on Naija FM 102.7, the iconic star, fondly known as Omosexy, declared that women have not only sustained Nollywood since its formative years but have actively shaped its growth, identity, and global relevance.

“Women are the ones who hold this industry, right from the start. Women are the ones who do well for this industry. Women are mostly the producers. Women are the ones who hold Nollywood really,” Omotola emphasised with conviction. She pointed out that while many recognize actresses for their on-screen brilliance, the real engine lies in the multifaceted contributions of women behind the scenes.

According to her, female actors frequently double as producers, securing funding, managing projects, and driving creative direction. Beyond filmmaking, she also noted that many are savvy entrepreneurs running thriving businesses, building personal brands, influencing culture, and balancing family life with demanding careers.

Married for over two decades to airline pilot Captain Matthew Ekeinde, Omotola highlighted that this relentless hustle and versatility, have been instrumental in keeping Nollywood resilient amid economic hardships, piracy challenges, and infrastructural limitations.
