“September is National Sickle Cell Awareness Month. At the @gatesfoundation Goalkeepers event, I shared my journey living with sickle cell and we danced. Grateful for the platform to raise awareness,” he captioned his post.
Adekunle Gold has been actively supporting the sickle cell community through his foundation, which launched the “5 Star Care” initiative in June 2025. This program provides free comprehensive health insurance to 1,000 individuals living with sickle cell disease, in partnership with the Lagos State Health Scheme Management, Sickle Cell Management Initiatives, and the Lagos State Ministry of Health.
The “5 Star Care” initiative not only offers medical support but also collaborates with researchers at New York University to explore the impact of sickle cell disease on mental health and lifestyle. This research aims to harness the power of creative outlets like music and storytelling as complementary support tools alongside medical care.
Through his efforts, Adekunle Gold continues to bring attention to the challenges faced by those living with sickle cell disease, inspiring others to join the movement and advocate for better support and awareness.
