Akosile Accuses Buchi of Bitterness in Tourism Advice to Foreigners

Akosile x Buchi

Lagos State Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, has strongly criticised content creator Solomon Buchi for advising foreign visitors, particularly Caucasians and Chinese tourists, to avoid Lagos if they seek an authentic Nigerian experience.

In a statement issued on Friday in response to Buchi’s video posted on X, Akosile accused the creator of showing bitterness toward Lagos instead of positively promoting other Nigerian cities.

Buchi had described Lagos as offering little beyond begging, clubbing, artificial lifestyles, and excessive noise, calling it a distortion of true Nigerian culture.

He suggested destinations such as Ibadan, Uyo, Abuja, Calabar, Jos, and others as better alternatives that reflect the country’s heritage and offer serene or rustic experiences.

Akosile rejected the characterisation, arguing that the nightlife, including clubbing and related trends, forms part of what makes Lagos appealing to many visitors. He maintained that these elements are in high demand and contribute to the city’s vibrancy.

The aide questioned the motivation behind such commentary, suggesting it stemmed from negative attitudes rather than constructive insight. He emphasised that Lagos remains a city of opportunities that continues to expand and improve, regardless of criticism. Akosile noted that many people from other parts of the country have found success there.

He concluded by inviting Buchi and others to experience Lagos during the December festive period, highlighting the range of activities available.
