Popular Nigerian writer and social media commentator Solomon Buchi has ignited a fresh round of online debate after advising foreign tourists and non-Nigerians to skip Lagos if they wish to experience the authentic culture of the country.
In a statement posted on X, the 30-year-old commentator cautioned foreign visitors specifically highlighting Caucasian and Chinese tourists against making the commercial capital their primary destination.
According to Buchi, the bustling metropolis offers a distorted view of the nation’s richer, deeper traditions.

He said: “Stop visiting Lagos if you’re a non-Nigerian and you want to experience Nigeria in its truest and beautiful form. If you’re Caucasian, Chinese stop going to Lagos. The only thing you can get out of Lagos is begging, clubbing, fake life.”
However, his harsh critique of Lagos has drawn mixed responses from observers.

Over the years, Buchi has established a reputation for offering unfiltered, often controversial opinions on African society, relationships, faith, and lifestyle trends across platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.
Despite the pushback, Buchi remains steadfast, maintaining that foreign visitors miss out on Nigeria’s genuine warmth and heritage by remaining confined to the high-end nightlife and luxury districts of the coastal metropolis.
