Alicia Keys Will Host the 2019 Grammys

Alicia Keys will be hosting the Grammy Awards for the first time this year.

For the first time, the American singer-songwriter Alicia Keys will be hosting the Grammy Awards this year. The Falling crooner replaces the British comedian, James Corden who hosted the show in 2017 and 2018. His performance last year was heavily criticised on social media mainly due to his feature in a skit that poked fun at the US President and for bringing his Carpool Karaoke into the show. Viewers took to Twitter to express their disappointment over his hosting skills, describing him a bad choice.

With Keys, who is a 15-time Grammy awards winner, the Recording Academy which is in charge of the Grammys are confident that she will deliver a brilliant show.

In a statement, Neil Portnow, President/CEO of the Recording Academy described the singer as a dynamic artist with the rare combination of groundbreaking talent and passion for her craft.

“Alicia Keys is the perfect choice as host for our show. Throughout her exciting career, I have watched her become a powerful force within the music industry and beyond. As an artist who speaks to the power of music, we are thrilled to have her on board for what’s sure to be an unforgettable Grammy Awards.”

Keys won her first Grammys in 2002. That year saw her taking home five awards: Song of the Year, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Song for ‘Fallin”, Best New Artist and Best R&B Album.

“I know what it feels like to be on that stage, and I’m going to bring that vibe and energy,” said Keys on her Instagram story. “I’m so excited to be the master of ceremonies on the biggest night in music and celebrate the creativity, power and, magic. I’m especially excited for all the incredible women nominated this year! It’s going “UP” on February 10!” the statement reads.

The 61st Grammy Awards is also returning to Los Angeles this year. Last  year’s edition took place at New York. The biggest night in music will take place at  Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 10.
