Berlin African Book Festival Announces Angolan Writer, Kalaf Epalanga As Curator For 2020 Event

Angolan writer and musician, Kalaf Epalanga is curator for the 2020 Berlin African Book Festival scheduled to hold from 17th – 19th of April, 2020.

The 2020 festival themed, “Telling The Origin Stories” is organized by InterKontinenetal, an agency for African literature in German speaking countries. They present and promote writers from the African continent and the diaspora.

The festival which had in 2019, author and film maker Tsitsi Dangaremgba as curator, will have Angolan musician and writer curate for the festival in 2020. Kalaf Epalanga, born in Angola, bred in Berlin, co-founded a record label “Enchufada.” Enchufada is a Portuguese Independent Record Label based in Lisbon, Portugal.

Epalanga wrote a regular column of short literary chronicles for the prestigious Portuguese newspaper O Público, GQ Magazine (Portugal), the independent Angolan online magazine REDE Angola and collaborates regularly with the Brazilian literary Magazine Quatro Cinco Um. His first novel, “Também os Brancos Sabem” (The Whites Also Can Dance, Editorial Caminho, 2017), was published in Angola, Portugal and Brazil.

We trust Kalaf Epalanga is an able representative of not just the Portuguese speaking nations, but also of Africa.
