Why I started the anti-bullying campaign – Beverly Naya

It is no news that Nollywood actress Beverly Naya is a huge campaigner for anti-bullying and anti-colourism in society. During her interview with Pulse, she went into the reason behind her decision to start a project like that.

According to Naya, the reason she started the anti-colourism and anti-bullying campaign was because she herself was a victim of bullying and colourism

“The major reason was that I am very passionate about the topic of colourism; wanting to start an anti-bullying campaign in 2014 was me being bullied as a child and teenager,” she said.

“It really affected my self-esteem. As I got older and became a woman I became affected by all the negativity I received.”

“So when I finally started to discover myself and find myself, it really became important to me to inspire other women to love and appreciate themselves.”

“Because even when my family told me I was beautiful it was never enough. I never believed it. So I felt if I was the voice that could allow people to know how powerful they are; then I can positively impact them,” Naya said.

It seems unreal that someone as stunning as Beverly Naya had to deal with insecurity, bullying, and colourism growing up. However, it just goes to show how irrational and racist the standard of beauty can be.
