Watch Beverly Naya share self-esteem story and how it inspired the creation of “Skin”

Actress and producer, Beverly Naya has spoken out about why she decided to shoot the documentary she titled “Skin”. She said she drew from her life story and personal experiences to make the film.

On the Wazobia Max TV show, Hello Nigeria, Naya shares with the show’s hosts how being bullied for having eczema and crooked teeth damaged her self-esteem. She went on to clarify that although she had not been attacked based on her skin colour, she had seen other people get the flak for it.

It was a revealing conversation as the British-born actress also talked about other social issues like colourism and how it relates to her career and that of her colleagues. She even shared an example of when somebody she knew lost a movie role because her skin tone was dark.

Her documentary, “Skin”, produced by Beverly Naya through Be Naya Productions, is using identity to explore the beauty in all shades of black. It features Phyno, Bob Risky, Eku Edewor and Dianna Yekinni.

“Skin” was directed by Etim Effiong.
