Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has spoken about the versatility he has shown throughout his acting career, saying his popularity as the Igbo character “Odogwu” has sometimes overshadowed the work he did in Yoruba roles earlier in his career

Arukwe, became popular among audiences for his portrayal of Obiora, popularly known as “Odogwu Paranran”, in Love in Every Word, said the success of the character made many people assume he was relatively new to Igbo-language roles.

However, the 43-year-old actor wants audiences to remember that he has spent years taking on different characters across Nigeria’s diverse film industry.

He said: “I’ve been playing Yoruba character for the longest. Odogwu para para came and took off and a lot of people thought, ‘Oh, he’s so good with the Igbo film.

He added: “They forget that actually my first AMVCA nomination was from a Yoruba character.”

Arukwe recent rise has, however, taken his career to another level.

His career has been built over years of playing different personalities and moving comfortably between stories, languages and genres.
