In recent times, there has been a growing trend of short songs, usually within the range of two minutes and a few seconds, in the mainstream Nigerian music industry.

In contrast, South African Amapiano songs are usually within the range of seven minutes and above.

The trend of short songs, which was started by Wizkid and Mr Eazi, skyrocketed after newcomers such as Rema, Joeboy, Omah Lay, Ayra Starr, and others joined in after debuting on the music scene in quick succession between 2019 and 2021.

Oxlade was also part of the trend in the past. His 2022 hit song, ‘Kulosa’, has a duration of 2 minutes and 31 seconds.
