Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido stole the show at the FIFA World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert using the the massive global platform not just to entertain, but to shine a powerful light on the ongoing plight of abducted students and teachers from Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Performing on June 10 at the sold-out Crypto.com Arena alongside Major Lazer and other international acts, Davido took the stage in a custom-designed jacket decorated with the names of the kidnapped victims and the poignant message “Bring Them Home.”
The abduction occurred on May 15, 2026, when armed gunmen launched coordinated attacks on three schools in the Oriire Local Government Area: Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School in Ahoro-Esin-Ile (Esiele), and L.A. Primary School. Approximately 39 students and 7 teachers were taken, in what has become one of the most alarming school kidnappings in Nigeria’s southwest region in recent years. One teacher was reportedly killed during the assault.
