Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has praised Afrobeats superstar Davido for using his global influence to draw attention to the worsening insecurity and kidnapping crisis in Nigeria.
During a high-profile countdown concert for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Davido took the stage wearing a customised leather jacket featuring the names of recently abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area in Oyo State.
The back of the jacket carried a clear message: “BRING THEM HOME.”

In a statement posted on his X account, Obi described the gesture as a bold patriotic act that went beyond entertainment. He said the singer successfully used his international platform to demand global scrutiny on Nigeria’s persistent security challenges, particularly the government’s inability to protect citizens.

Obi, a former Anambra governor, also urged leaders to create better conditions for Nigeria’s youth to thrive both at home and on the world stage while reflecting on the strong performances of Nigerian artists such as Davido, Burna Boy, Rema, and Ayra Starr on the official tournament soundtrack, as well as Nigerians playing for other national teams, as proof of the country’s abundant talent.
