Nigerian recording artist Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, has addressed the music industry’s gatekeepers.
According to the singer-songwriter, several gatekeepers in the music industry tried to keep away from attaining mainstream success.
He disclosed this while reacting to a viral clip from a recent interview where veteran music executive Obi Asika claimed that some Nigerian music industry gatekeepers tried to frustrate Burna Boy’s career, but he bypassed them and blew up internationally.

Commenting under the comments section of a blog that posted the video on Instagram, Burna Boy wrote, “This is not even half of the story. They did everything they possibly could to break me. They are still trying their best. Lol. But all they did was create this unquenchable fire that will continue to burn them for eternity.”

It would be recalled that the self-acclaimed African Giant came into national reckoning with the release of his hit song, ‘Like To Party’ off his debut album ‘L.I.F.E (Leaving an Impact for Eternity).’
His career encountered setbacks in the following years, with him being relegated to an underground artist.
However, his career skyrocketed internationally with the release of his breakthrough track, ‘Ye’ off the critically-acclaimed album, ‘Outside’.
Following his overseas success, Nigerian fans and music heads began patronising Burna Boy again.
In 2021, the singer-songwriter became the first Nigerian musician to win a Grammy award as a solo artiste.
He has been the number one touring African artist in the last few years.
