Burna Boy: Everybody is Confused in Nigeria

Afro-fusion singer, Damini Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy, has lamented the increasing spate of confusion among Nigerian leaders and members of the public at large.

Speaking during a commemoration programme on Arise TV, the music star said the confusion has since been plaguing the country as a whole, adding that the youths are not focused in any way.

According to him, what everyone of his age caliber is concerned about is material things and money.

He said, “Everybody is so confused, such that they see what is wrong but it’s like what Afro-beat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti said, we suffer and smile (but there is a reason for that); that’s what we have grown up with.

“The youths right now are focused on one thing and one thing only, which is to get money and fly, buy things that really don’t matter. I am also guilty as well because I also grow up in this place, where our priorities have been misplaced, and we have been blinded from the things that are really going on.”

He further stated that regardless of the situations of things in the country, there are few Nigerians who are making everyone proud.

“The beauty in the whole of Nigeria’s problem is that there is a few Nigerians, serious respectable ones who have taken it upon themselves to go out anywhere in the world to become who they are today.

“People like Adebayo Ogunlesi. There are many of them who have gone and later came back to do something. These are the only hopes we have so far because the leaders we appointed to do this are just not cutting it at this point,” he added.

Burna Boy, however, used the interview forum to canvass for a conducive environment to thrive.

“For artistes like us to explore our talent, we must be in an environment that is conducive, not one that is so confused at this point,” he revealed.

Meanwhile, the artiste who’s known for being a strong advocate of a better Nigeria was two days ago in the news for turning down activist Omoyele Sowore‘s request to protest for the good of the country.

Revealing why he rebuffed the request, Burna Boy said he doesn’t trust any politician, and as such, he can’t partake in any protest organised by any of them.

Is everyone truly confused in Nigeria as Burna Boy claimed?
