
Veteran Nigerian politician Charly Boy has opened up about his relationship with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, describing it as uncommon,” rooted in respect, understanding and shared concern for the future of Nigeria.
Speaking on X on Monday, Charly Boy said many Nigerians were surprised that a well‑known critic of government could be close to a former head of state.
“People wondered how someone who constantly challenges authority could be so connected to a former head of state,” he said.
“But life is not always black and white. Sometimes respect and understanding build bridges where people least expect.”

He explained that he looks beyond Obasanjo’s military background and presidential role, seeing him as an elder who has faced war, leadership challenges, and national struggles but has remained strong.

He added that their relationship is not about publicity or attention, but about quiet understanding.
He said their conversations usually focus on Nigeria’s important issues. They may debate and disagree, but there is never any bitterness.
“We may argue, we may disagree, but respect is always intact,” Charly He said their mutual respect was clear when Obasanjo personally hosted the launch of his autobiography, 999.tobiography, 999.
“That day was not about selling books. It was about acknowledgement. It was about an elder saying, ‘I see you.” Charly Boy recalled.

“In a nation where division is too common, our connection shows that bridges can be built. It is a reminder that when two strong men choose respect over ego, it becomes a powerful example for others,” he concluded.
