Charly Boy Reflects on Dispute with 50 Cent

Maverick entertainer, Charly Boy has reflected on his dispute with American rapper, 50 Cent, saying he threatened the latter at the time of their disagreement.

Remembering his time as the president of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Charly Boy said he witnessed the rapid growth of the Nigerian music industry, as he revealed that his dispute with 50 Cent exemplifies his point that the industry has grown in the past years.

Charly Boy’s words: “If you remember that was the days that they use to bring in a lot of foreign artistes together to the detriment of Nigerian artistes and I kicked against it. I was put in jail, I was locked up in the cell; thanks to Nigeria Breweries… They had this concert because what really picked them was that 50 Cent came to play, he had already performed in Lagos and he had this falling out with Idris Abdulkareem, for what? Idris decided he was an A-list artiste at a time, hence, he will seat in the first-class section with 50 Cent.

“50 Cent’s bodyguard came and beat the hell out of Idris and his bodyguard and threw them at the back of the plane. Of course, Idris called me and I was furious, they were about to head to PortHarcourt for their second performance that day, there I was and I arrived at the airport with almost 5000 Okada people.

“That’s how I now saw 50 Cent, and I said so you can come to my territory and abuse my people. He said no it wasn’t like that, I said so you think you can go to Port Harcourt and come out there alive? And he understood what I meant exactly and so this was how 50 Cent never left the airport. From that airport (Muritala Muhammed Airport), they went back to America, they didn’t play the show because they were too scared to go to Port Harcourt and finish.

“Now we have moved on, Nigerian artistes just like I predicted at that time that Africa music was going to be sort after globally…”
