Supporters of the March and March movement gathered outside the Cape Town Regional Court on August 19, protesting against beauty queen Chidimma Adetshina as she battles government over her immigration status.
The protesters sang, chanted and displayed banners calling for Adetshina to leave South Africa as the court prepared to hear the matter.
Reports indicated that she faced a hostile reception when she arrived at the courthouse, with protesters surrounding her before she entered.

Adetshina’s immigration dispute has attracted attention following the controversy that forced her withdrawal from the 2024 Miss South Africa competition. Her Nigerian father became a point of contention, with critics questioning her nationality.

She later represented Nigeria at the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, where she emerged winner before going on to represent the country at Miss Universe.
The legal dispute centres on allegations that Adetshina entered South Africa through the Lebombo border from Mozambique despite previously being declared a prohibited person. Authorities reportedly arrested her in June 2026 and sought to detain her pending deportation.
However, Adetshina has challenged the government’s position through her legal team, which disputes the authorities’ claims.
The court proceedings today have drawn interest in South Africa and Nigeria, with the outcome expected to determine the next stage of her immigration battle.
