Childish Gambino and Rihanna’s Movie Might be Released Soon

Over the past few days, online adverts for ‘Guava Island’ – a movie that Childish Gambino and Rihanna are working on together – began popping up on various platforms. The ads came with a date, April 13, which is the day after Gambino is billed to headline at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

A teaser was first released in August 2018 with Gambino and Rihanna  being in Cuba together on set, and in November, more details emerged with the unveiling of a trailer by the Atlanta creator during the 2018 Pharos Festival in New Zealand. The trailer showed the two musicians playing the roles of a struggling musician and his love interest on a tropical island, running into hassles while trying to get a big break.

“We live in paradise but none of us actually have the time or the means to live here,” Gambino comments in one scene.

Despite no official premiere date being  announced yet, one of the ads feature Gambino doing a guitar solo which he ends by saying, “I’ll see you at the show, everyone.” There is also a Rap Caviar playlist which is noted as being presented by Guava Island.

Director of the upcoming project is Gambino’s frequent collaborator Hiro Murai (“This Is America,” “3005”) and will also star actress Letitia Wright and British-African actor, Nonso Anozie.
