‘Consistency shot me into limelight’ – Kenny Blaq

One of Nigeria’s most sought after comedian and singer, Otolorin Kehinde Peter, aka Kenny Blaq revealed his consistency performing at comedy shows was the key thing that made him attain success.

Speaking with Saturday PUNCH, the stand-up comedian, 27, said he wouldn’t attribute his journey into fame to a particular project, but rather to his ability to stay consistent with what he was doing.

“It was when I kept performing at shows that I became popular, and here I am today.”

On what has changed for the artiste  since he became a celeb, Kenny Blaq said it is fames, that it has taken privacy away from him. He said fame brought him to public glare and he couldn’t do the things he used to do as Kehinde.

Kenny Blaq further delved into the challenges he faced when he began his carrier. He said that one of them was the fact that he started young; coupled with his small stature which made people not to want to give him their platforms.

“They saw me as a boy who wouldn’t be able to deliver due to my appearance. Some didn’t even attempt to hear me out. And some did, grudgingly; gave me the stage for like two minutes, when the halls were being arranged.”

Another major challenge he faced was his genre of comedy. It was difficult for some people to accept it as it was either comedy or song they were used to. So accepting someone who was combining both wasn’t easy.

I had to find a way to balance it, and made it more appealing. He said however concluded all of these didn’t deter him, rather they made him stronger.
