Nollywood actress and reality television star Beverly Osu has revealed that long before finding fame in the entertainment industry, she once dreamed of becoming a Reverend Sister.
Speaking during a recent appearance on the Creativtea Podcast, Beverly opened up about her early years and the strong influence of her Catholic upbringing.
According to the actress, she attended Daughters of Divine Love Juniorate in Enugu, where she seriously considered dedicating her life to the religious order.
She said: “I grew up in Lagos, in Surulere, and from Surulere I moved to Yaba, Ojuelegba. I am a Lagos girl.”
Beverly explained that her admiration for priests and Reverend Sisters played a major role in shaping that ambition.

She said: “I was meant to be a Reverend Sister. I wanted to really be a Reverend Sister. Now, I am doing God’s work in other ways.”
She continued: “I love how they dress. Because I am meticulous and very neat, I just loved how clean the priests and Reverend Sisters were. Literally, that was it.”
She said she was particularly drawn to their discipline, commitment and appearance, which inspired her desire to follow a similar path at the time.
She said: “I grew up in a very Catholic-oriented home. This is not just being Catholic in Africa, far and wide. People just read meaning to it. Nigerians just like to talk. It wasn’t a big deal. It was just arty.”
She added: “I have never meant any harm. I have never done anything with the mindset to be controversial. I just came across the word ‘controversial’. People say I am controversial, but I am just being me.”
The actress also addressed the criticism she received after a photoshoot in which she dressed as a Reverend Sister.
However, Beverly maintained that the shoot was purely artistic and was never intended to mock or offend anyone.
Reacting to claims that she is often controversial, the actress insisted that she has never deliberately sought attention through her actions.
According to her, many of the situations that have sparked public debate about her were unplanned.
Osu rose to prominence after representing Nigeria on the 2013 edition of Big Brother Africa: The Chase.
