The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed July 2, 2026, for the hearing of a N10 billion fundamental rights suit filed by Nollywood actor and politician Emeka Ike against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Lere Olayinka, media aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

The suit was filed on June 15, 2026, following allegations that Ike’s personal voter registration data was unlawfully accessed and exposed on social media.

Ike claims the breach occurred when screenshots of his INEC Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) transfer details surfaced online, allegedly shared or facilitated by Olayinka.

According to court documents, the veteran actor is seeking N10 billion in damages against INEC and Olayinka for violating his constitutional right to privacy under the 1999 Constitution (as amended), Article 12 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and Sections 24 and 39 of the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.

Ike is also demanding a public apology and the immediate removal of the offending post. The development has sparked conversations about voter data protection, public officials’ responsibilities, and the enforcement of Nigeria’s data privacy laws ahead of future elections.

Both INEC and Olayinka are yet to file their responses as at press time.
