The Federal High Court in Abuja will today decide on a fresh push to reopen the police probe into the death of popular singer Mohbad.

The case was filed by the Break the Silence Foundation. They want the court to order the Nigeria Police Force to carry out a proper, fresh investigation into how the singer died.

Mohbad, whose real name is Ilerioluwa Aloba, died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. He was buried the following day  was later exhumed for an autopsy, but many Nigerians remain unhappy with how the case has been handled.

The foundation says the original police investigation left too many questions unanswered. They claim important leads were not properly followed. Their lawyer, Chief Tunde Falola, says a new probe is needed to finally get to the truth.

The group has named the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos State Police Command as respondents in the suit.

The matter was previously adjourned on June 17 and is now set for a ruling today, June 25, 2026.

For nearly three years, the #JusticeForMohbad campaign has remained strong. Many fans and activists continue to demand answers. Mohbad’s body is still not reburied due to ongoing family and legal issues, including questions about his son’s paternity.

Rights groups hope today’s court decision will finally bring clarity to one of Nigeria’s most talked-about cases.
