COVID-19: Coachella’s April Dates Cancelled by Public Health Officer

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival along with its companion Stagecoach festival, which were to hold between April 9th to 18th; has been cancelled. This is coming from Dr Cameron Kaiser, the Riverside County Publich Health Officer; a recurring issue for the entertainment scene on the heels of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

A rep for the officer tells the media that it remains possible that Coachella could be rescheduled for later in the year; although she deferred to Goldenvoice, the festivals’ promoter, for further details.

The probability of any festivals taking place later this year is low, the rep further noted. Glastonbury’s Music festival also faced cancellation for a second time last week due to the resurgence of the pandemic in England; which leaves the traditionally lucrative European concert festival season in question..

With Glastonbury cancelled again, it leaves the concert festival season in serious doubt yet again this year in England. These doubts could easily transfer to North America; even with the annoucement of New York’s Governor’s Ball in scheduled for September.

The live-entertainment business lost over $30 billion in 2020 due to the pandemic. Including the $9.7 billion lost from box office projections (according to Pollstar); the effect of of the pandemic on revenue may be the most devastating seen in recent times.
