
Social media commentator Martins Otse popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM) appeared in court on Tuesday as his long running cyberbullying trial continued.
The case, which has drawn widespread public interest due to the high‑profile personalities involved, stems from a series of controversial Instagram posts made between October 2023 and March 2024.
VDM faces multiple charges filed by the police, naming actresses Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh, as well as music producer Samklef.
The allegations include threats and harassment towards Samklef, publishing insulting and obscene content targeting Iyabo Ojo, and falsely accusing Tonto Dikeh of mismanaging funds raised for the “Justice for Mohbad” movement.
Additional counts claim he insulted senior police officers and lawmakers, all via social media.

The charges fall under Section 24 of the country’s cybercrime law, reflecting serious concerns over defamation, harassment, and misuse of online platforms.

VDM was first arraigned on May 22, 2024, and was granted bail of ₦10 million the following month, under strict conditions requiring two sureties who must be senior civil servants or reputable company employees with verified tax records.
On May 15, 2025, he was re-arraigned before a new judge, pleaded not guilty to all five counts, and was released on his previous bail terms. The court has adjourned the trial, setting the next hearing for December 2, 2025.
