Dave Chappelle is looking for roles in Nollywood movies

American stand-up comedian, Dave Chappell said that his next professional objective is to act in a Nollywood film. This was his response when he was asked if he would consider acting again. Chappelle said this during an appearance on the Joe Rogan Podcast.

Chappelle expresses his admiration for Nollywood filmmakers’ ability to produce films with limited means. The comedy star said: “I have this weird idea. I want to go to Africa and do some of these Nollywood movies“.

I’ve been watching them, and how people can solve problems with so little resources. This is what these African directors are like. The movies look crazy but it’s funny how crazy they look.”

But it is also inspiring because I can’t believe this guy with no resources solve complicated filmmaking problem with this type of ingenuity because they had to. What if there is a reputable American star to apply these tricks to? “

I come with this funny; you just give that look. Don’t you worry, it’s all going to work out? I want to do that, I want just to see what’s popping over there. Africa is popping right now.”

Dave Chappelle looking to take on Nollywood movies

Because of the way Nollywood movies are, Chappelle believes he does not need a script to star in one. “I don’t know that I need one. You have to see one of these movies to see what I’m talking about,” he said.

It’s like something about it makes me feel joyful when I watch it.

On June 12, Chappelle released “8:46” a stand-up special taped in his birthplace of Yellow Springs, Ohio, just days before. Since filming the special, Chappelle has been performing smaller, socially distant comedy events in the Wiring Pavilion, a private outdoor event space amongst corn fields and Christmas tree farms in the picturesque community of Yellow Springs.

Dave Chappelle & Friends are making a return to the country stage. Tickets for the late-May performances were rapidly sold out. Many fans are looking forward to having Chappelle back on stage since his break which was due to COVID 19 restrictions.
