Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke with the stage name Davido, has made a triumphant return to Babcock University, his alma mater, over a decade after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music in 2015.
The emotional homecoming, which took place recently, saw the global music icon tour the campus, interact with students, and reaffirm his commitment to education and creative excellence.

During the visit, Davido announced a major philanthropic pledge: the donation of a standalone Music and Creative Arts building equipped with a world-class recording studio modelled after his recently completed high-end facility in Lagos. He emphasised the need for the music department to have its own dedicated structure and professional-grade equipment to nurture the next generation of talent.

“Music is oil right now in Nigeria,” Davido declared, underscoring the economic and cultural power of the creative industry. He expressed hope that details would be finalised with the Vice Chancellor before the end of 2026 to kickstart construction. The singer also hinted that the department might eventually be named the David Adeleke School of Music and Creative Arts.
Davido, who has often bragged about completing his university education despite his rising fame, credited Babcock for shaping his career and personal life, including meeting his wife, Chioma, on campus. He described the visit as a full-circle moment and a way to give back to the institution that laid the foundation for his success.
