Dayo Amusa Advocates for The Girl-Child in ‘Omoniyun’

After a few years behind the scene, Nollywood actress, Dayo Amusa is back with the release of her new movie. The film which will be at the cinemas from November 29 is an advocacy for the girl-child.

Directed by Muyiwa Ademola, the film features stars like Segun Arinze, Dayo Amusa and Nkechi Blessing among others.

Omoniyun‘ reveals the destruction of a young girl, Fiyinfolu as a result of the sexual-assaults from her step-father, Prince Sodeke. However, Sodeke sets out to wreck the violated minor when Omoniyun, a community nurse and her friend stood up to him and decided to fight for the molested girl.

Speaking on the film, Dayo Amusa said,

I believe the girl child is disadvantaged. We need people with voices and influence to stand up for them.”

Furthermore, she stressed the importance of movies like this and the need for the whole community to protect the girl-child. She also says she draws inspiration from things around her, things she sees and hears. Originally written by Dayo Falore, Amusa fell in love with the script of her new movie. Before then, she has had the opportunity to hear and see stories of child molestation in Sagamu. This gave her the drive as she could relate to the story.

It came naturally for me to shoot the movie. I seem to have strength in shooting advocacy movies.”

Dayo Amusa joined Nollywood in 2002. Although, being a Yoruba actress, she has also featured in English movies. In 2006, she started producing her own movies and focused on the production of Yoruba movies. She has produced remarkable works such as Unforgivable, That Which Bind Us, and now Omoniyun.
