Desmond Elliot Faces Backlash Over Handwashing Mechanism

Social media users have lashed Desmond Elliot, Nollywood actor and lawmaker, following the pictures he posted on Instagram showing the handwashing mechanism he installed to aid in the fight against COVID-19.

Several of the Elliot’s followers expressed their displeasure of what they term; ‘crude mechanism failing the basic preventive fundamental of social distancing’.

“So we constructed a makeshift cleansing mechanism where passersby or people entering streets could wash their hands with soap and water and also sanitize before entering the streets. Pilot works can be seen in these areas. It was located across the environment.

Elliot, who represents Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos House of Assembly, listed all the points where his handwashing mechanisms were located.

But this gesture did not rub people the right way as Elliot’s “mechanism” turned out to just be buckets with a faucet and a basin under it.

One social media user criticized Elliot for the handwashing mechanism, “This is the kind of system we are running, whenever u join them u can’t make changes.”

“Since majority Nigerians don’t know what they want, this kind of thing will look special to them. These same so-called politicians go to developed countries and see the way they operate. But coming down here, they become king of a jungle.”

“The time is coming when they will not be able to run to other countries like what is happening now. Everything they gathered will be vanity upon vanity in their own eyes.”

“Mr. Desmond you have done well, God bless you, but I think your people deserve better than this. I am one of your fans, love your movies but I stand for better Nigeria”, he concluded.
